A place for tears of sorrow and tears of joy, a place of spirituality, a place to heal. The Meditation Garden piece is one of the visual reminders of how strongly the pain affects us. We would like to complete the Garden with the statues for the Fountain Of Tears, as they are designed. The Meditation Garden was dedicated on July 4, 2006 and will continue to be a refuge for veterans of all ages who come to The Highground looking for it's spiritual healing. The Garden, however, will not be complete until the statuary for the Falling Tears Fountain has been placed in their rightful home. The original design of the Fountain called for a statue of a GI holding the dog tags of his fallen comrade. He is the genesis of the tears in the fountain. He is connected by the water to the statues of the wife and young child of the fallen soldier who sit on the edge of a pond at the other end of the fountain. They are connected, yet also separated by a bridge. The statuary will help to define the Fountain & the Garden as a whole & is expected to cost $125,000.

As of June 2008, over $89,978 has been pledged and received. Please help us with our vision of the future. Your gift will enable us to continue to grow our garden and further our mission of healing with the completion of the Fountain Of Tears.

Loyal American Legion Post 175 donates to Fountain of Tears Project
American Legion Commander Pete Rinka and Quartermaster Bruce Hadler of
Loyal presented Kirk Rodman the Volunteer General Manager of the
Highground with a check for $2500.00.  This money will be applied to the
Fountain of Tears project, which is illustrated in the foreground of the
picture.  The Highground has raised over $70,000 against the goal of
$125,000 to complete the statuary for the Fountain of Tears.  They would
like to complete the project by the spring of 2009.

Donated Tree, Rock Wall
In July, The Highground had several trees blown over on the plaza.  We asked for help and received it.  The Ho-Chunk nation donated this tree to replace one that was uprooted.  A new rock wall gave us the added dimension of lengthening the National Native American Vietnam Veterans Tribute and helps to support the new tree.
